My destination...

I applied to 5 universities offering undergraduate courses in Management with Marketing/Marketing Management. I still have not got any offer...so I am a bit upset. I am particularly interested in two universities: Lancaster University and RGU Aberdeen. The letter is likely to be my firm offer (as long as I get one). Lancaster Management School has very high requirements, so it would be my insurance choice if was given a conditional offer.

Robert Gordon University

If you are interested in the institution, my post may help you to make a final decision:)

* I recommend visiting RGU's website and RGU's profile on Facebook

*You may also read an interview about studying at RGU.

*If you want to know more, just take a look at the RGU's profile here: The Complete University Guide.

*What do Aberdeen and The Aberdeen Business School have on offer for you? Just read The Biz.

*You just have to watch Robert Gordon University's profile on YouTube!!!:  http://www.youtube.com/robertgordonuni

What you should know about the RGU:

  • In 1720 Robert Gordon retired to Aberdeen, having amassed a considerable fortune in Poland. On his death 11 years later he willed his entire estate to build a residential school for educating young boys.
  • The Sunday Times named Robert Gordon University their Scottish University of the Year 2011 and first in Scotland for graduate-level jobs. It said: "With a graduate unemployment rate that is lower than the most famous universities, including Oxford and Cambridge, plus a flourishing reputation for research, high student satisfaction rates and ambitious plans for its picturesque campus, Robert Gordon University is The Sunday Times Scottish University of the Year".
  • The Sunday Times named Robert Gordon University the Best Modern University in the UK for 2012.
  • It said: "With just 3.8% of graduates unemployed six months after leaving, a degree from Robert Gordon University (RGU) is as near to a guarantee of a job after graduation as you can get.....RGU's graduates don't just get jobs, they get good ones, with 84.9% securing jobs commensurate with their qualifications...with starting salaries at an impressive £20,897"
  • If you are the EU student, you do not have to pay tuition fess, as it is funded by SAAS!

  • RGU offers students the opportunity to undertake a fieldwork placement and also has Study Abroad opportunities for undergraduate students supported by Placement Office and Study Abroad team

It is set in Aberdeen which is called the Oil Capital of Europe or the Energy Capital of Europe! Aberdeen is Scotland’s third largest city and located between the mouths of the Don and the Dee. It has a long sandy beach between the two rivers which turns into high sand dunes north of the Don.

Due to its sparkling granite buildings Aberdeen is often called the ‘Granite City’ or the ‘Silver City and Aberdeen’s skyline certainly is the most recognizable in Scotland. It boasts a wide range of shops, award-winning cuisine and a vibrant nightlife and is well worth a visit.

Learning a foreign language

I wish I could speak with a British accent-it is so brilliant, so unique, so bloody awesome:)

Learning English may be a daunting experience in the beginning. But also a very exciting experience:) Step by step you build up your volabulary and realize that Grammar is not so complex. Then, you reckon that it is not complex at all...not even a little bit:) The more you know, the more confident you become...

Best advice: Do not be scared of speaking. Communication is of a prime importance! I know people who are brilliant at Grammar and do not want to speak, as they are terrified of making mistakes... Generally speaking, we are just fallible human beings and we just do make errors! No one is flawless-even language teachers. Frankly speaking, some native speakers are worse than non-native speakers.

As far as I am concerned, I have got my favourite Grammar Book. I may recommend: "Grammarway 4"-thousands of clear examples and interesting exercises.

Good vocabulary builder: Mariusz Misztal "Tests in English-thematic vocabulary"- maybe it is slightly challenging and quite advanced but it is worth trying:)

Best English magazines: "English Matters"-it is full of particularly interesting articles concerning different walks of life. And the second place goes to..."Business English Magazine"-brilliant business articles and MP3 versions of them.

Take advantage of plethora of modern means of communication-English blogs, websites, movies (you may watch movies in English if you have Foxlife. You just have to change language settings using your TV remote control:) I enjoy watching "Got to dance"-oh, clear British accent is awesome, "X-factor USA"-American English is so simple:)

Furthermore, you may watch BBC if you have a decoder-CYFRA Plus or CYFROWY Polsat. If you don't have one, you can also listen to online BBC Radio BBC Radio News.

Maybe you like Business Reports:) BBC Business Reports.

Still, you have problems with listening? Don't worry! I recommend watching funny English movies, such as: the Simpsons (watch it online or on FOX and have fun):)

If your English is a bit rusty, do not worry. It is never to late. Just make your foreign language not so foreign. When you are surrounded by English, it becomes a part of you. Join English conversation classes conducted by native-speakers-a wonderful experience:) In conclusion, do not learn from one source. And do not even try to translate everything into Polish!

Examples, examples, practise, practise, practise... You must repeat new words. Make simple sentences using new vocabulary and repeat every day:) If you want to speak English fluently you really need to know a bit of Grammar! Learn from examples. When you get to know a new structure, you may feel quite bewildered! Don't worry! Learn from your own simple sentences. For instance, my hands-on-experience with "but for" (Gdyby nie). I just learned one easy sentence: "But for your hepl/involvement, it would have collapsed then/we wouldn't be here now" and I alway thing about this easy sentence when I want to use this elaborate structure or Second/Third Conditional:)

To conclude, never give up in the middle of your way! Do not be scared! Just try to live your own British life:)

Track

Track is a place where I can keep up-to-date with my progress and reply to offers. It has recently become the most important UCAS overlap to me.

Waiting for offers is more scary than it seemed to be a month ago. Now, when my application is already sent, I cannot do almost anything to boost my chances in the application process. I wrote "almost", because I asked universities whether they need scanned copies of my qualifications. They replied that it would support my application, so I sent these documents to them via mial.

Roughly 2 days after sending application, you can log in to TRACK.

  • To log in you will need your Personal ID and the same username and password you used in Apply!

  • You can substitute a choice within 7 days from the date printed on your original UCAS welcome letter.

New Year and old memories:)

New Year's Eve Party is over... 2011 has gone with the wind and will never come back. My New Year's provisions? I wanna keep you updated with my adventure with UCAS and British higher education system.

Some people say that 1 January is the best time for changes-man can start everything from scratch... However, I think that every day is good for changes... For example, my mum tried to lose weigh many times. Unfortunately, without effects:( One day, she said: "It is high time I really faced my problem. I go on a diet." Afterwards, she lost more than 20 kilograms!

I heard about people who started their higher education at the age of 60. In conclusion, it is never to late! I always try to use each chance I am given. You never know where different things may lead you:) For instance, thanks to Theatre Knowledge competition, I had been to Greece and met marvelous people who are my acquaintances know (I do not mean Facebook but real fellows). Moreover, I completed upper-intermediate course at the biggest language school in Poland-this was the most brilliant year of my life. I will never forget my first journey to Kraków (on my own). I was looking at the map as if it had been the Bible:):) Thanks to previously mentioned contest, I met native-speakers from Great Britain who influenced my decisions about studies. Furthermore, I met my course-mates, outstanding people. Three of them worked at Jagiellonian University-two Chemistry lectures (women) and one Law lecture (also a woman). I must mention Darek-he worked for IKEA and was always absent, because he participated in international conferences of the company. I even had a spokeswoman of "Cracovia" (football team)-she also worked in TV...You probably know these dull "TV supermarkets" such as Mango... so she used to work there:)
As far as I am concerned, I do not want to change myself! No makeovers (I am thinking about glasses instead of contact lenses, but isn't a big change). If people accepted their flaws and appreciated their merits, they wouldn't have any complexes.

My tip: do not care about other people' opinions and just be yourself. Everybody has heard at least one malicious feedback in their life. I do not care, because I love my life:)

To complete, I want to post a comment which I found on YouTube. It concerned Adel.
